Distribution of Winter aids for IDPs from the Military Operations in Mosul

Donor: ZOA

The Iraqi Institution for Development (IID), with the support of the Dutch organization ZOA, implemented an urgent humanitarian intervention following the liberation of the city of Mosul from ISIS, as part of the emergency response to the needs of affected families in rural areas of Ninewa Governorate.

After the liberation operations, thousands of families faced extremely difficult humanitarian conditions due to widespread destruction of infrastructure and homes, the absence of basic services, and a severe lack of essential supplies—particularly with the onset of winter. Many returning families were living in damaged houses without proper windows and doors, exposing them to harsh weather conditions and cold temperatures.

In response, IID carried out winter assistance activities in the villages of Tal Al-Laban and Baibuch:

In Baibuch village, 3,400 blankets and winter clothing items were distributed to children and elderly individuals, who were among the most vulnerable groups. This intervention helped reduce health risks associated with cold weather, particularly for children and older people who had limited resources after displacement and return.

In Tal Al-Laban village, repair materials were distributed to 500 households, including supplies to rehabilitate windows and doors in order to improve insulation and protection from the elements. This support contributed to restoring dignity for returning families and creating safer and more stable living conditions during the early recovery phase.

This activity was part of broader efforts to support community stabilization, encourage safe and voluntary returns, and help rebuild trust and hope among conflict-affected communities in Ninewa Governorate.
